North Macedonia experienced an increase in its trade deficit, which expanded to $297.3 million in September 2025, compared to $214.3 million in the same month the previous year. This change reflects a 10.3% year-on-year rise in exports, amounting to USD 821.7 million, against a faster 16.7% increase in imports, which totaled USD 1,119 million. Over the January to September timeframe, the nation’s trade deficit accumulated to $2,809 million. Export figures show a 5.0% growth compared to the same period the previous year, reaching USD 6,689 million. This growth was primarily driven by increased sales in the sectors of beverages and tobacco (+34.3%), animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (+28.6%), and machinery and transport equipment (+15.4%). On the import side, there was a 6.5% increase to USD 9,498 million, predominantly influenced by animal and vegetable oils, fats and waxes (+28.2%), as well as beverages and tobacco (+13.7%).
