In July 2025, Bulgaria experienced a 6% year-over-year increase in retail sales, marking a deceleration from June's 6.8% rise. This moderation was largely influenced by reduced sales in various sectors, including non-specialised retail stores with a growth of 10.7% compared to 13.6% previously, household appliances and furniture at 11.9% down from 15.5%, pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics, and toiletries seeing 9.5% growth versus 10.5%, and automotive fuels and lubricants which increased by 3.0% as opposed to the prior 9.7%. Moreover, there was a further decline in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco, which dropped by 7.0% compared to a 3.8% decrease. Conversely, sales strengthened in certain areas: non-food products saw an increase of 11.8% up from 11.7%; textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods surged by 16.6% compared to 10.2%; and computer and communication equipment sales rose by 18.9%, improving from 16.6%. When observed on a monthly basis, retail sales edged up by 0.5% in July, a slight decrease from June’s 0.6% increase.
